About Us

About Gerald Hingtgen – Co-owner and Project Manager H&H Home Builders

His customers and sub-contractors know him as ‘Gerry’, his everyday work includes estimating projects, working closely with our clients, managing the day to day activities and scheduling contractors for our jobsites, he’s also well known for his insistence on quality workmanship and is himself, an accomplished wood worker.

Gerald grew up around the building trades where he and his siblings helped their father, as part of his side work remodeling old homes, apartments, commercial sites and also helping with the construction of several new homes while on summer break and after school hours. “I dreaded the coming of summer vacation from school….but it taught me a very important work ethic”. He later attended Iowa State University where he studied Art and Design and graduated with a BA Degree in Landscape Architecture, 1992. His education focused on the planning and functional design of spaces within our landscape. He learned to be a steward of nature by working with the unique situations that a particular site has to offer instead of forcing static ideas onto a site which always create problems later. In order to properly site an element (a home) into the landscape to achieve longevity and sustainability one must understand how to read the given conditions of the site and possess the creative insight that’s needed to solve problems and capitalize on the subtle advantages that each site has to offer.

Gerald feels very fortunate to be a vital part of quality growth and development in our area and would like to offer his services to you as part of your next quality building experience.

Randy is a native of eastern Iowa. He graduated from New Hampton high school and then went on to graduate from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in science. While at UNI his studies included air and water flow, energy movement and management as well as solar energy. In addition Randy took some graduate science classes at the University of Iowa. “I use my science background every day, you would be amazed at how much science is used in construction”

He started in the construction trades in high school and then college. In 1979 Randy installed his first solar system and his first geothermal system in 1984. In January 1995 Randy & Gerry began H & H Home Builders. They did all phases of construction from planning, framing, trimming and finishing.

Over the years Randy has been active in the local, State and National Home Builders Associations. Thru continuing education he has become a ‘Certified Graduate Builder’ & a ‘Certified Green Building Professional’ thru the national HBA. He continues to self educate in the areas of cutting edge technology in green building and energy efficient design.

Randy currently is in his fourth term as an Iowa State Home Builders Assoc. board member and is in his first three year term as an Iowa State Habitat for Humanity board member.

Randy resides in rural North Liberty with his wife Susan. They enjoy gardening, nature and attending sporting events. Their children and grandchildren are in the North Liberty and Solon area.
